This compact fluorescent lamp is a
low pressure mercury-vapor gas-discharge lamp that uses fluorescence to produce visible
light. A fluorescent lamp converts electrical energy into useful light much more efficiently than the
incandescent lamps. The compact fluorescent lamps are ubiquitous in households.
They are always preferred because of their low consumption power and tend to be economical. What worries me is how they are disposed after completing their lifespan.I've seens children playing with the carelessly disposed compact fluorescent lamps and i've always warned them on the dangers of messing around with the lamps knowing very well the health risks associated with the mercury in the lamps. That white powder can damage the child's brain and cause a fatal syndrome. The white powder has an effect on the human blood and a study illustrated its effect on the human blood.
Once the mercury enters the blood stream via an open fresh wound it causes clotting of the blood vessels and this later induces a cardiovascular attack which may lead to untimely death. This takes me back to when 2 guys decided to enact what they usually saw at WWE .The 2 guys made a wrestling board and also came with brutal weapons to use in the course of the wrestling. Some of the weapons was a chain saw, hockey stick and fluorescent tubes.By the first 30minutes one opponent had cut wounds on his chest area brought about by the chain saw.The opponent was then hit by the broken fluorescent tubes on the same chest about 4 Times. All was well till after an hour when the opponent fell down and never lived to breath again. He was gone just like that.
When the fluorescent tubes were being smashed on his chest, the white mercury powder was entering his blood stream via the open cut wounds. This had an effect on the blood flow and later led to heart failure. This is how serious it can be.Dispose the tubes or lamps safely.Dont let the children play with them and don't think of breaking the glasses
